AR WALLACE THE OTHER GUY TO DISCOVER NATURAL SELECTION here
This paper-puppet animation celebrates the life of Alfred Russel Wallace, who is co-credited with Charles Darwin for the theory of natural selection. Read the story here: http://nyti.ms/1fhBbGw
This video is so creative and I really like the "set changes" that go along with the narration. I think it does a great job of visually breaking down a topic that can sometimes be hard to follow or visualize in one's head.
ReplyDeleteThis video was included for the same reason as Joseph Cornell, Mark Dion drawings and a few others. Our goal for the end of the semester was to build a cabinet in the sculpture area but since we have to work at home our access to actual specimens etc. has been limited. How can you "collect" and exhibit and relay info about the natural world and your research? This represents one creative option.
ReplyDeleteIt was strange because before watching the video I thought this was going to be a humorous twist, or a discovery made after the time of Darwin, but towards the end it said that the two of them co-discovered the idea of natural selection. I had never heard of A.R. Wallace until this time. With that being said, I can see why his story and leanings are important enough to create such a vivid and detail oriented art piece. The animation was pretty cool, not as cringy as a lot of other puppet style or frame animations I have seen before. It was definitely a unique way to showcase A.R. Wallace, rather than make a basic documentary or create an art piece that talked on his findings.
