Asterisms emphasizes the use of collections within a work and how they can elevate the meaning of it. It also combines different mediums (physical objects and photography) and while together in the museum setting, they work together to create a dialogue.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate how much Orozco collected for these series of pieces and his explanation for why he chose them. The best part, to me, was when he said he found over 1,200 objects on a playing field and at first he couldn't tell what they were- organic, manmade, food, a body part?? haha But I believe this is a great example for how to utilize found objects and how to position them in such a way that their stories add to each other to create a new narrative that the artist is attempting to share. Orozco explained that he would explore their shape and condition so that he could change what they used to be before he found them in their current state. This is proof that meaningful art materials do not always have to be expensive, maybe just time intensive.
